What is it?

Welcome to our best selling item (and best reviewed!).  These bulbs are a plug 'n' play replacement for the OEM bulbs that came standard in your Model S and X.  Most owners agree the original bulbs are very dim, but would like to keep the 'factory' look.  These are identical to the Tesla-fitted bulbs in every regard, except they're 16x brighter.  These make a dramatic difference to the lighting in your Model S - you can now see what's in your trunk!  You can see your feet in the car! You can even see to the back of the frunk!

Shipping in a four-pack, the more you buy, the more you save.    We've also created bundles for both the Model S and X that provide everything you need to replace all your bulbs (white and red - the S has 13 white and 4 red, and the X has 11 white and 2 red).  Below is a short explanation of the locations for the S, listed in order of usefulness.  We strongly recommend also purchasing a spudger/trim removal tool if you don't already have one.  These are the best around (we've tested all of them, and don't be fooled by the cheap orange ones you'll find on Amazon and eBay), and they'll be useful for many things in the home and car.

Also available to buy separately, or included in one of the S or X packs, are  the  Red Ultra-Bright lights, to replace the rear-facing warning lights in the doors.

Really Important Note: Tesla has varied the trim levels several times, so not all cars will have lights visible in all of these locations, but  the wiring is there for all Model S's regardless of trim and vintage.  Check out our installation instructions for more details if you're not sure.  For Model S, you'll need to order the brackets for under the front seats if you do not already have lights there (the wiring is there though, promise!).

Easy (3 bulbs - no more than 10 minutes to replace all of them)

  1. Inside the trunk, below the loading ledge - there are two bulbs. Model S's not ordered with the PUP (Premium Upgrade Package) will not have the bulbs, but if you feel around, you'll find a 'punch-out' in the trunk trim, and behind there will be the wiring for the bulbs, normally taped to the wiring harness, but you might have to hunt for the wires - every car has them though.
  2. Inside the frunk, just below the latch. 

   

Trickier (7 bulbs - 20 minutes)

  1. In the trunk lid, a single bulb shines down into the trunk.  This was originally in the 'easy' section, but more recent builds (2015 onward) are a tighter fit
  2. The 'puddle lights' on the bottom of each door.  They're really easy to access (just open the door), but take a bit more encouragement to pop out.  Each door has one white bulb, so four in total (recent non-PUP cars only have them in the front doors, but wires are there in the back)
  3. The front foot-well lights for the driver and passenger.  They're a little tricky to pop out, especially on the driver's side, as the pedals slightly interfere with being able to pry the bulb out.

   

Finger-hurting potential (2 or 3 bulbs - 10 minutes)

  1. The foot-well lights for the rear passengers sit on a bar below each of the front seats.  The entire assembly holding each bulb snaps off the bar fairly easily, but getting the bulb out requires some strength.  To gain access to the bulbs, the seats need to be raised to their highest position and tilted forward. Verify that you do have the rear-footwell lights, as trim levels and specifications have varied many times since the Model S has launched.  If you do not have them, then the wiring is there in every Model S, but you will need two brackets to correctly mount the bulbs.
  2. There is also a single bulb in the glove box.  This can be difficult to pry out, but it is the same as all the other bulbs, so if you want extra light in there, you can either buy a single bulb, or one of the full S/X packs.

 

Remember, all the timings above are based on using one of our super-awesome spudgers, but aside from that, no special skills are needed.
