Installing the Mini Dash Display
- Push the display into the air vent in front of the steering wheel. It is a friction fit and will stay in place once seated.
- Pop off the end cap on the driver's side of the dash. It is held by a couple of plastic clips, so it pulls straight off. Leave it off for now.
- Run the display cable across the top of the vent, keeping it flat, and tuck it up underneath so it is hidden when you look into the vent. Use the spudger to help work it in if needed.
- Bring the cable around to the side of the dash and poke it behind the end cap opening.
- Pull the kinks out of the cable and run it down the side of the dash, then tuck it in behind the trim on the footwell side. Use two hands: one to pull the trim away, one to push the cable in.
- Continue along the bottom of the door sill, keeping the cable flat and tucking it up under the trim. Use the trim tool to open the gap if needed. Work back as far as the point where the front and rear carpets join.
- Move the driver's seat forward and up as far as it will go.
- Feed the cable through the gap under the seat rail with your fingers and pull it through to the rear.
- At the rear, tuck the cable under the join in the carpet trim so it is not visible when getting in and out.
- Remove the trim piece on the back of the center console. Work the trim removal tool around the edge and pop it off. It is held by spring clips and a couple of plastic locating lugs.
- Find the CAN bus connector behind the trim. You do not need to power down the car. Press the release clip and pull the connector apart.
- Plug the module in between the two halves of the connector, daisy-chaining it. Make sure each connection clicks.
- Route the module's cable to the rear of the console and feed it through the same gap at the carpet join under the seat, then connect it to the display cable.
- Tuck the excess cable away out of sight, and make sure none of it sits where the seat tracks run so it cannot be caught when the seat moves.
- Refit the console trim piece, lining up the middle clip at the top.
- Back at the front, tuck the visible run of cable into the trim seam where the soft dash top meets the dash, working it in with your fingertips and separating the seam with the trim tool if needed.
- Work the last section of cable over the top of the defroster air channel at the base of the windshield, using the pry tool if needed.
- Press the dash end cap back into place.
To check the install: with your foot on the brake, the display shows state of charge in Park. Shift through Drive, Reverse, Neutral and Park to confirm the gear indicator changes. Real-time speed shows while driving, in the units your car is set to.
