Installing the Trunk Light Strip
- Remove the parcel shelf so you have clear access to the trunk opening.
- Unravel the light strip and lay it out so it isn't fighting its own coil memory.
- Plug the strip into the 12V outlet in the back of the trunk. Leaving it powered during the install makes it easy to see which edge is the lit edge.
- Note the orientation: the lit edge must face outwards once the strip is tucked in.
- Find the small indent where the trunk lid bumper lands. Use that as your starting and alignment point, and position the magnetic sensor section of the strip there.
- Working out from that point, tuck the strip up under the weather stripping all the way around the trunk opening. On this first pass just get it roughly in place; don't chase perfection.
- Use a trim tool if you want to save your fingers, especially in the tighter sections. It isn't required.
- Along the bottom edge, tuck the strip into the weather strip itself rather than between the trim and the weather strip. This gives a tidier, more subtle result.
- Go back around with your fingertips and even the strip out so it sits at a consistent depth under the weather stripping. You should not see it as a direct light source.
- Tidy the cable by running it around and into the weather stripping. Keep it behind the light strip so it doesn't block the light.
- Position the magnet on the trunk lid so that it sits opposite the magnetic sensor on the strip. Test for the exact location before finalizing the installation of the magnet.
- Peel the adhesive backing off the magnet and press it into place. The magnet also holds to the bodywork behind it.
- Apply the decor patch over the magnet with your fingertips. This step is optional.
- Close the trunk and check through the window that the light switches off, then open it again to confirm the light comes back on.
