Please refer to the video below, and pay attention to the installation, as it's a little different to most PPF installs (less slip solution).
Installing the Door Fingerprint Guards
Tip: install PPF in temperate conditions, between 60°F and 80°F (16°C and 27°C).
You will need slip solution (a 5% soap and water mix) in a spray bottle, a double-sided squeegee, and a clean rag. Alcohol wipes are included. Your hands must be clean before you handle the film.
The set covers all four doors. The rear pieces are slightly larger than the front pieces, because they are shaped to follow the C pillar rather than the B pillar. Check the shape against the door before you peel anything.
- Clean the area of the door where fingerprints collect. If it is greasy or dirty, wash it properly first, then finish with an alcohol wipe.
- Pay particular attention to the area behind the door seam, as the film folds over that edge. The alcohol wipe should come away clean. If it does not, keep cleaning until it does.
- Spray the door with slip solution. Use a light coat — do not soak it. Do not spray the film itself.
- Peel the backing paper off the film. If your piece has the push decal behind it, you can grip that to help hold the film.
- Place the film on the door and work to three alignment points: the top edge lines up with the trim along the top of the door, the film lines up along the body fold, and the end of the cutout sits right on the edge of the door.
- Slide the film into position if needed. There is more resistance than a normal PPF install because there is less fluid behind it. If it will not move at all, add a little more slip solution.
- Squeegee the fluid out, working away from the open edge of the door — down and across, never toward the fold-over tabs. Keeping those tabs dry lets them stick immediately.
- Go over the edge again with the rigid side of the squeegee to push out any remaining fluid. Trapped fluid along this edge is what causes bubbling later. Wipe up with the rag.
- Hold the rigid side of the squeegee along the door edge and press firmly with one hand.
- With your other hand, roll the tab over the edge and stretch it around, then fold it under. The heat from your fingers is enough — no heat gun is needed.
- Repeat the fold-over at the top edge.
- Close the door to check that the film follows the line of the pillar.
- Repeat on the remaining doors.
If the fold-over tabs do get wet, they may not stick straight away. Let them dry, or speed it up with a hair dryer on high heat. Half an hour is usually enough.
