Installing the 16" screen protector
Choosing clear or matte
- Clear: maximum clarity and a glossy, almost mirror-like finish. Choose this if you have excellent vision and want the protector to be invisible on the screen.
- Matte: spreads out reflective glare and hides fingerprints far better than the clear. Choose this if glare or fingerprints bother you.
Both versions have the same oleophobic coating, so cleanup is the same either way.
Before you start
- Pick a sunny day and move the car outside. Direct sunlight across the screen shows up any remaining dust.
- Wash your hands.
- Set aside 10 to 15 minutes where you won't be disturbed.
- Turn off the car's air conditioning to limit air movement inside the cabin.
- Have a credit card handy in case you need to work out bubbles.
Front screen
- Wipe the screen with the wet wipe from the kit. This cleans the screen and reduces static on the plastic surface.
- Polish the screen with the microfiber cloth to remove any streaks from the wipe.
- Look across the screen in the sunlight and check that no dust is left.
- Take the screen protector out of its protective pack and check that it is still snapped onto all four lugs of the alignment frame. It can work loose in transit.
- Take one last look at the screen for dust, then set the frame and protector onto the screen and check it is seated all the way around.
- Pull the backing tab from the right side to remove the backing sheet. A protective layer stays on top of the glass.
- Hold the frame in place and swipe your finger from the top of the screen down to help the adhesive spread.
- Hold the protector down, release the frame at the corners and lift the frame away.
- Work out any bubbles with the microfiber cloth, pushing them up and out toward the nearest edge. If two bubbles are next to each other, push the larger one into the smaller one.
- If bubbles won't move with the cloth, use a credit card to work them out.
- For a stubborn bubble, lift the edge of the protector with your finger, lift it back as far as the bubble, then lay the protector back down.
- When you are happy with the result, peel off the top protective layer.
- Wake the screen and check that it responds normally.
Rear screen
- Turn off the rear air vents.
- If the factory protective film is still on the rear screen, remove it.
- Turn on screen clean mode.
- Clean the screen with the wet wipe, then polish it with the microfiber cloth.
- Peel off the backing sheet using the paper tab on the back of the protector.
- If you spot dust on the screen, use a dust grabber. Dab it onto the dust and pull it straight away. Do not drag it, or it will leave adhesive residue.
- Check the screen one more time for dust.
- Hold the protector by the handles and position it by eye inside the rear screen, checking all the edges.
- Drag your finger down the protector and give the adhesive a second to spread.
- Work out any bubbles using the same technique as the front screen.
- Peel off the top protective layer.
- Hold to exit screen clean mode and check the screen responds normally.
