Need to adjust the position of your lights? Here's how:
Installing your puddle lights
- Lower the window on the door you are working on. If the window is up when you unplug the factory bulb, it will rise and the door will hit the trim when you close it.
- Check which light is which. The lights are supplied as a left and a right, marked on the box and on the light itself. Using the wrong side puts the logo the wrong way around.
- Look at the factory light in the bottom of the door for the small notch at one end. This is where you pry.
- Hook a spudger or trim removal tool under the notch and lever the bulb out. Use a little force. If it does not release easily, add a slight twist. If you use a flat blade screwdriver instead, put masking or painter's tape on the trim where you are prying to avoid scratches, and be aware the bulb may crack as it comes out.
- Pull the bulb clear of the door and press down on the release tab on the connector to unplug it. Tesla has used several versions of this connector, but each one has a release clip.
- Push the new light onto the connector until it clicks. The car beeps as the circuit is restored.
- Check the orientation of the logo, tuck the wires up into the door, and snap the light into the opening.
- Repeat on the other side with the matching left or right light.
