What is included in the box?
All components needed for a new installation or for upgrading from an existing sensor are included. To upgrade, the existing sensor is the only component that needs to be replaced. A choice of brackets is offered at the point of ordering, and we carry spare brackets if needed.
Is Infinity Shield compatible with my garage door opener?
It is compatible with all major garage door openers, and installation begins by confirming compatibility with the opener. The receive housing DIP switch must be set to match the opener model.
Is installation difficult?
Not at all. The installation as straightforward, using snap-in brackets that attach to the garage-door rails, then connecting the existing wires.
Installation
What is the first step before installation?
Confirm compatibility with the garage door opener, unpack the parts, and lay them out on a protected surface like cardboard or a table.
Do I need to disconnect power before installing Infinity Shield?
Yes. Although everything we're working with is low voltage, to avoid unnecessary door position changes, it makes sense to unplug things.
What do I do with my old sensors during an upgrade?
For upgrades, disconnect or cut the two wires from each existing sensor and remove the old sensors from both sides of the garage door.
How do I set the DIP switch?
Remove the DIP switch cover on the receive housing, set the switches to match your garage door opener model using the included tweezers, then reinstall the cover. If you change the DIP switch settings, power to the unit must be turned off for at least 10 seconds and then turned back on for the new setting to take effect.
How do I connect the wiring?
Connect the lower wires from each housing to the garage door opener wires using the included wire nuts or strip-less connectors. The red wire is positive and the black wire is negative. If polarity is unknown, you can try one way and then the other; incorrect polarity will not damage the unit.
How can I tell if the wiring polarity is correct?
When power is restored, the receive housing LED should blink red once and the transmit housing LED should blink green once if polarity is correct.
What should I see when the system is installed correctly?
Once power is restored and none of the beams are blocked, the red receive LED and green transmit LED should blink rapidly.
Can I turn the beeper on or off?
Yes. The beeper can be turned on or off using the receive beeper toggle switch.
Troubleshooting
The user LEDs do not light up
- Check that the two wires from the garage door opener on each side of the garage door are connected to the Infinity Shield sensor.
- Swap the red and black wire connections to the garage door opener wires, since polarity may be reversed.
- Check the unused upper or lower wires for shorts; if the bare conductors are touching, separate them and cover them with electrical tape.
- Confirm the garage door opener is plugged in, powered on, and has not entered an automatic shutoff mode. Some openers with motion sensors power down after a period of inactivity.
The door is closed and does not open
- Check the power source to the garage door opener.
- Confirm the two wires from the opener on each side of the garage door are connected to the Infinity Shield sensor.
- If those items check out, continue with the garage door opener’s own troubleshooting steps.
The door is open and does not start moving, or starts and quickly stops
- Check the power source to the garage door opener.
- Confirm the opener wires on both sides are connected to the Infinity Shield sensor.
- Check for anything blocking the IR beams, including garage door handles or hardware attached to the door.
- Verify the DIP switch is set for the correct garage door opener model; after changing it, power must be off for at least 10 seconds before restarting.
- Inspect alignment of the left and right housings. Perfect alignment is not required, but both sides should be vertically aligned and facing each other.
- For multi-door garages, confirm the installation guidelines for preventing cross talk were followed.
- Inspect the transmitter and receiver for dirt, dust, or visible damage, and wipe them clean with a damp paper towel.
- Power cycle the system by disconnecting the Infinity Shield transmit and receive housings for 10 seconds, then reconnecting them.
- If needed, continue with the garage door opener’s own troubleshooting steps.
The door is open and stops before fully closing
- Check for anything blocking the IR beams, including handles or attached parts, at the point where the door stops.
- Verify the DIP switch matches the opener model; if you change it, remove power for at least 10 seconds before powering back on.
- Check that the left and right housings are vertically aligned and facing each other.
- In garages with multiple doors, confirm cross-talk prevention guidelines were followed.
- Clean the transmitters and receivers and inspect them for damage.
- If the issue is intermittent and happens only when strong sunlight hits the receiver side, swap the transmitter and receiver sides; if both sides get strong sun during the day, contact customer support.
The door does not stop closing when something is in the way
Unplug power to the garage door opener immediately and do not operate it again until the issue is fixed, to avoid injury or property damage. Contact customer support.
The beeper beeps sporadically when the door is open
- Occasional beeping can happen when strong sunlight hits the receiver directly; if it is infrequent and not inconvenient, it may not indicate a problem.
- Check that the left and right housings are vertically aligned and facing each other.
- For multi-door garages, confirm cross-talk prevention guidelines were followed.
- Clean the transmitter and receiver and inspect them for damage.
- If the issue happens only when strong sunlight hits the receiver side and not the transmitter side, swap the transmitter and receiver sides; if both sides get strong sun and the unit beeps more than once per minute, contact customer support.
