As always, the best advice we can give is to watch the video; it's a bit longer than others, but use the chapter markers to hop to the section you need, and watch in your car as you do the install!

Installing the Center Console Wrap

Before you start

  • Work with the car cool — around 50–60°F (10–16°C).
  • Chill the vinyl in a refrigerator for an hour or two first. Cooler vinyl is more rigid and less tacky, which makes it easier to position.
  • Set aside about half an hour, even though the job takes 10–15 minutes. Work slowly.
  • Wipe the console down with the supplied wipe to remove dust and hairs, and let it dry.

The set contains four pieces: two identical sliding door pieces (the second is a spare or practice piece), the cup holder piece on a clear carrier sheet, and the rear USB-C port wrap.

Sliding door piece

  1. Peel the vinyl off its backing starting at one of the top corners. Pull slowly and evenly. Do not start from the bottom edge, or you will stretch the vinyl around the door opening.
  2. Get directly above the console so you are looking straight down at it.
  3. Lower the piece into place using the door handle cutout as your alignment guide. Lift, drop and drag it until the cutout is centered on the handle and the overlap at the left and right corners looks even — about 1mm of vinyl past each edge all the way around.
  4. When the alignment is right, let the piece settle and squeegee it down. Work from the center backwards, then from the center out to each side, always working toward an edge so air is pushed out.
  5. Squeegee the whole surface, including around the handle, even where it looks flat. Any trapped air will expand and contract as the car heats and cools and will eventually form a bubble.
  6. Tuck the overlapping edges under all the way around. If the vinyl sticks to the cup holder section below, lift it back up and free it with the squeegee.
  7. Lift the front edge and slide the door open so you can reach the leading edge.
  8. Run a finger back and forth along that edge to warm the vinyl and form a sharp crease. This stops bubbles forming where the vinyl turns the corner.
  9. Go over the crease with the straight edge of the squeegee, using firm pressure. Pay attention to the small corners that tuck under the slide rail.
  10. Smooth out any small ripples with a finger. For anything more stubborn, warm the vinyl with a hair dryer on a low or medium setting and work it out.

Gloss finishes only

3M ships gloss 2080 vinyl with a clear protective film on top. Once the piece is installed and squeegeed down, pick up a corner of that film with a fingernail and peel it off in one piece.

Cup holder piece

  1. Peel the backing off the cup holder piece, leaving it on its clear carrier sheet. Handle it by the carrier sheet and by the tabs on each side. The carrier holds the shape of the thin sections around the cup holder cutout.
  2. Working from directly above, drag and drop the piece into position. Check several points: the cup holder cutout shape on both sides, and roughly a millimeter of overlap at the small corners on the back edge. Expect to reposition it a dozen or more times.
  3. Once aligned, squeegee from the center backwards, then out to the edges. Do not tuck the edges under yet.
  4. At the very thin sections beside the cup holder, fold the carrier sheet back a little, then use the squeegee to push the vinyl down and under the aluminum bezel. Make sure the vinyl sticks to the console, not to the bezel, and form a sharp crease along that line.
  5. Repeat on the other side.
  6. Tuck the remaining edges under.
  7. Peel the carrier sheet away slowly, starting from one of the bottom corners. Keep it face up — the USB wrap is still attached to it. Watch that you are not lifting the vinyl as you peel; if a section lifts, lay it back down and squeegee it in.
  8. Peel the front edge back slightly so the sliding door can move out of the way, then tuck the edges back under.
  9. Work the front edge with your finger to form a crease, then go over it with the flat edge of the squeegee using firm pressure.
  10. On the trailing edge, roll the vinyl over the edge with a finger and use the squeegee in the corners.
  11. Use a hair dryer to relax the vinyl if any ripples remain, then pinch the edge down with the squeegee.

Rear USB-C wrap (optional)

  1. Go to the rear of the center console.
  2. Use the two USB-C ports as your alignment points and line the piece up over them.
  3. Smooth it down with a finger, then squeegee around the edges.
  4. Use enough pressure to make sure the vinyl is well stuck — cool vinyl does not grab as strongly at first.
  5. Peel the carrier film away and tidy up the edges with the squeegee.
