Installing the ABS Replacement Emblem

  1. If a vinyl logo decal is currently on the emblem, peel it off first.
  2. Mark the position of the existing chrome emblem with masking or painters tape. Use three strips: one at each bottom point of the T, running up to the top, and one across the top to mark where the arc sits.
  3. Tie a length of strong nylon string between the two finger pulls from the emblem removal kit. If you are using your own line instead, use 20–25 lb fishing line.
  4. If you are working somewhere cold, warm the emblem with a hair dryer first to soften the adhesive.
  5. Start at one of the narrow ends of the emblem and saw the string back and forth through the adhesive behind it. Work the top piece first, then the rest.
  6. Lift the emblem away with your fingers. Take care: the factory emblems are metal, so they will scratch the paint if you lever them against the bodywork.
  7. Remove the bulk of the remaining foam adhesive by rolling it off with your finger. Get as much off as you can before using any liquid, as the remover dissolves the foam and makes a mess.
  8. Spray Rapid Remover onto a wipe rather than directly onto the paint. Hold it on the remaining residue for a second, work it around, then wipe it away with a clean wipe.
  9. Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol on a clean wipe.
  10. Peel the backing from the main body of the new emblem. Line up the bottom tip and the top right against your tape marks, set it down, and apply a little pressure.
  11. Peel the backing from the arc. The adhesive strip is narrow, so peel carefully and make sure it stays on the plastic.
  12. Lay the arc in place starting at one end, without pressing down yet. Check that the gap between the arc and the main body is equal all the way around, then press it down.
  13. Apply even pressure over the whole emblem with a cloth.
  14. Peel off the tape markers.
  15. Spray the area with Speed Shine to reseal the paint and remove any remaining residue. You can be liberal with this. Wipe off with a clean wipe.

The rear emblem is installed the same way. The only difference is that the rear surface is more upright, so you are working against gravity a little more.
