Please take a moment to watch the video below, it includes important tips and tricks for achieving a prefect installation!
Installing the screen protectors
Before you start
- Turn off the car's AC so there is no air moving dust around inside the cabin.
- Park in daylight if you can. Natural light makes dust on the screen much easier to see.
- Wash your hands before you handle anything.
- Allow yourself unhurried time. Every movement during the install should be slow and deliberate.
- Dab the dust grabbers onto dust, peel on and peel off. Do not drag them across the screen or they will leave residue.
Front screen
- On the center screen, go to Display and turn on screen clean mode to lock the screen.
- Wipe the whole screen with the wet cleaning wipe. The alcohol removes grime and reduces static that would attract dust.
- Polish the screen with the polishing cloth to remove any residue left by the wet wipe.
- Check the screen in the light for any remaining dust. Dab off anything you find with a dust grabber.
- Pick up the front protector in its installation frame. Note the marked top edge, and slide the frame down over the top of the screen.
- Check that the frame is seated all the way around, and that the plastic films are properly hooked into the locating lugs on the frame.
- Pull the release tab to release the film from the back of the protector, pulling it all the way through.
- Swipe upward across the face of the protector to start the adhesive spreading across the screen.
- Hold the protector in place and gently peel away the top cover.
- Release the frame from the screen, putting your thumbs inside the frame against the protector to hold it as you clear the frame away.
- Work any bubbles out to the nearest edge with your fingers. If a bubble will not travel to an edge, lift the nearest edge gently with a fingernail, work back to the bubble, and lay the protector back down to push it out.
- If you spot a piece of dust trapped under the protector, lift that edge of the protector, dab the dust off with a dust grabber, then lay the protector back down.
- Exit screen clean mode. If the screen behaves oddly afterwards, reboot the car: hold both scroll wheels with your foot on the brake until the Tesla logo appears on the center screen. This recalibrates the touch sensitivity.
Rear screen
- Turn off the rear air vents, then go to Settings on the rear screen and turn on screen clean mode.
- Clean the rear screen with the wet wipe, then polish it with the polishing cloth.
- Take out the rear protector. It is labeled on the top and on the back. Dry fit it over the screen first so you understand how it sits.
- Peel the film off the back of the protector.
- Holding the two side ears, position the protector over the screen. Line up the slightly curved top edge first, then check the corners. Sit square to the screen for accurate alignment.
- Lower the protector onto the screen and let the adhesive spread. If it slips out of position, lift it again and reposition it.
- Hold one finger on the protector, peel back the top section of the top film, then peel the rest of it away.
- Wait for the protector to finish adhering, then polish it with the cloth.
- Hold to exit screen clean mode, and turn the rear air back on.
